PMC Greenlights Road Development Initiative for 32 Villages
Pune: PMC To Begin Night-Time Garbage Collection To Tackle Late-Night Littering
December 14, 2024
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has given the green light to a proposal aimed at planning roads in 32 villages under its jurisdiction, with the goal of aligning these roads with the Regional Plan (RP). This decision, which was approved by the Standing Committee on Friday, December 13th, comes with an estimated budget of ₹41 lakh.
The PMC now oversees 34 villages following the state government’s inclusion of 11 villages in 2017 and 23 more in 2021. However, two villages, Uruli Devachi and Fursungi, were recently removed from the PMC limits. Despite the inclusion of these villages, development plans have not yet been finalized, which hampers the PMC’s ability to create new infrastructure.
As a result, the PMC has been concentrating on essential maintenance tasks, such as repairing existing roads and filling potholes in the villages. The corporation currently lacks detailed information regarding the existing roads, proposed alignments, or planned widenings in accordance with the government’s RP. Therefore, new road construction cannot proceed until proper planning and clarity are achieved.
The new plan focuses on designing roads according to the Regional Plan (RP) to promote proper development and prevent encroachment. It will clarify road spaces for residents, facilitating future land transactions and minimizing legal uncertainties in these villages.
