Cold Wave Grips Maharashtra: Temperatures Dip Below 10°C Across Several Regions

Pune Experiences Thick Fog and Milder Cold as IMD Predicts Temperature Rise
State Experiences a Sharp Drop in Minimum Temperatures. The Meteorological Department has predicted that the cold wave in Maharashtra will persist for the next three days. Temperatures in several regions have dropped below 10°C, causing a noticeable chill across the state.
Over the past few days, cold winds from northern India have intensified the winter in Maharashtra. On Wednesday (Dec 18), Dhule recorded the state’s lowest temperature of 5°C at the Agriculture College.
Vidarbha, Marathwada, and northern Maharashtra have been significantly affected, with temperatures plummeting across these regions. On Tuesday, temperatures of 8.4°C were recorded in Jalgaon, while Nanded reported 8.9°C. Other cities such as Nashik, Baramati, Udgir, and Nagpur also saw temperatures drop to as low as 8.2°C.

In Mahabaleshwar, temperatures fell to 4°C near the Venna Lake area early Tuesday morning, forming frost and ice crystals due to the freezing dew. The chill has intensified across Mahabaleshwar and surrounding areas, offering a unique winter experience.
Meanwhile, Santacruz recorded the highest temperature in the state at 34.6°C over the 24 hours ending Wednesday morning. Despite the prevailing cold wave, the Meteorological Department predicts a gradual rise in minimum temperatures across the state in the coming days.
National Outlook:
Northern India continues to reel under an intense cold wave, with a ‘yellow alert’ issued for regions including Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. Temperatures in these areas have ranged between 0°C and 6°C, while Kashmir has reported sub-zero temperatures as low as -5°C.
