Pune Metro Set To Revolutionize Connectivity: A Boon For IT Professionals
Efforts underway to enhance connectivity and provide seamless transit for Pune’s IT workforce.
In a bid to improve connectivity between Hinjewadi and Shivaji Nagar, Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited is working on future plans to link these key hubs, said Director Neha Pandit. Currently, the metro project between Shivajinagar and Hinjewadi is being developed under the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) on a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
Pandit also shared insights on the theme, “Connecting IT hubs and central Pune via Metro: Challenges and Opportunities.” The event also marked the inauguration of the union’s new website.
Pandit explained that before initiating any metro project, thorough studies are conducted, considering factors such as public benefit, geographical conditions, and financial feasibility. Land acquisition is a critical component, and as per government regulations, construction begins only after 90% of the required land has been acquired.
The Shivajinagar-Hinjewadi metro line is being built with the collaboration of a German private company and involves an investment of ₹7,000 crore.
Highlighting the advancements in metro technology, Pandit noted that Pune’s metro system features state-of-the-art automated trains. Unlike older systems abroad that rely on remote sensing, Pune’s metro employs advanced “third rail” technology, eliminating overhead wires and operating on high-voltage electric current.
Pandit emphasized the importance of public participation, urging citizens to prioritize metro travel for safer and more efficient commuting. She highlighted passenger-centric features such as full glass windows for panoramic views, automated glass doors, and modern design elements.
With Pune’s metro network expanding rapidly, the project aims to make public transport more accessible and reliable for the city’s growing population, particularly those in the IT sector.
Passengers as well as IT professionals are hoping that soon the government should plan to connect the IT parks in Hinjewadi, Kharadi, Phursungi, Magarpatta aiming to streamline transportation for the IT sector.
