In a shocking surge of cybercrime, nine cases of online fraud were reported on Thursday, December 19, with cybercriminals siphoning off ₹58 lakh from various bank accounts. This follows a similar pattern of ten cyber fraud-related cases lodged on Wednesday, where ₹1 crore was stolen.

The police have booked the accused under relevant sections of the Information Technology (IT) Act. The cases reported on Thursday involved task fraud, online share trading, data theft, online loan fraud, and parcel fraud.

As the festive season approaches, the city police have issued an advisory warning citizens about potential cyber scams. These scams often involve congratulatory messages, gift links, and fake updates related to PAN cards. Citizens are cautioned against clicking on suspicious links, which can expose their devices to malware and put personal and financial information at risk.
