Weather Update: Warm Nights Ahead: Pune To Experience Above-Normal Temperatures Till Dec 27

Pune residents can expect warm nights ahead, with minimum temperatures set to rise above 20 degrees Celsius in the coming days. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials, the city’s minimum temperature will remain above normal by 8 to 10 degrees till December 27.
This comes as a relief after last week’s cold nights, which saw the season’s lowest temperatures so far. IMD officials have assured that the warm weather will not disrupt Christmas celebrations, with day temperatures remaining in the average range.
On Saturday and Sunday, Shivajinagar and Lohegaon recorded temperatures above normal by 4-6 degrees. The significant increase in night temperature has been attributed to higher atmospheric moisture levels, brought in by southwesterly winds.
Scientist SD Sanap from IMD Pune explained to the media person that the, “The southwesterly wind has brought massive moisture over the state, resulting in an exponential increase in minimum temperature. This pattern is expected to remain for the next few days.”
Meanwhile, the city woke up to dense fog on Sunday morning, causing slow traffic movement on highways due to reduced visibility. The IMD has predicted similar foggy conditions for the next few days, advising citizens to plan road trips after 9 am, starting from today, Monday.
The unusual weather conditions have raised concerns about the impact on crops, particularly onions. IMD scientists and state agriculture department officials warned that the sudden increase in temperature and dense fog conditions could affect the growth of onion plants, causing leaves to turn yellow and newly planted saplings to wither.
Other crops like wheat and maize may also suffer from the weather change, which can cause oxidative stress in plants, affecting germination and yield capacity.
