The central government has awarded Maharashtra ₹260.91 crore for its outstanding performance in the rooftop solar power generation scheme over the past four years. The state has excelled in encouraging residential rooftop solar panel installations, significantly contributing to renewable energy production.

Lokesh Chandra, the President and Managing Director of Mahavitaran, confirmed the incentive. Under the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Free Power Scheme, eligible households using up to 300 units of power receive free electricity and can earn by selling surplus energy to the grid.

Maharashtra’s steady progress in rooftop solar installations has been remarkable. The state received ₹59.37 crore for 2019-20 and 2020-21. It earned ₹69.47 crore in 2021-22, ₹94.91 crore in 2022-23, and is expected to receive ₹137 crore for 2023-24 due to exceeding performance benchmarks.

The scheme offers direct subsidies to domestic consumers installing solar panels. These include ₹30,000 for 1 kW systems, ₹60,000 for 2 kW systems, and ₹78,000 for 3 kW systems. Mahavitaran also provides free net meters to ensure easy implementation.

The initiative, driven by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, prioritizes clean energy adoption and direct consumer benefits. Maharashtra’s performance is evaluated yearly based on the number of installations and energy generation.

Residents interested in the scheme can register on the official website: https://www.pmsuryaghar.gov.in. The rooftop solar initiative continues to grow, offering environmental and financial benefits, while positioning Maharashtra as a leader in renewable energy.
