In the bustling industrial city of Pimpri Chinchwad, an automobile engineer is quietly leading a green revolution. Meet Prashant Raul, an environmental crusader whose passion for nature has transformed into a decade-long mission to nurture and protect the environment.

Hailing from Pandharpur in Solapur district, Prashant’s journey began when he moved to Pune for work. But it was his deep-rooted love for nature that led him to establish the Green Army Pimpri-Chinchwad on October 2, 2021. This initiative, a continuation of his earlier tree-planting project, Vrukshamitra, aims to foster environmental awareness and promote sustainable living in the community.

“Environmental conservation isn’t just a responsibility; it’s a necessity,” Prashant shares. “Climate change is impacting our lives in profound ways, and it’s crucial for both citizens and the government to work together for a healthier planet.”

Under Prashant’s leadership, the Green Army has championed numerous initiatives. These include campaigns against illegal tree cutting, tree transplantation using innovative ‘nature island’ methods, and plantation drives. The Green Army Plate Bank, an initiative to curb single-use waste, stands as another testament to his commitment.

One of his most notable contributions is leading a legal battle through public interest litigation to save the Metro Eco Park, a green lung for the city.

Prashant Raul’s journey exemplifies the power of individual action in creating collective change. His work not only inspires the residents of Pimpri Chinchwad but also serves as a rallying call for everyone to step up and take charge of preserving the planet.
