Pune Sees Rise in Licences Issued by RTO in 2024
The Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has reported a rise in the number of licences issued in 2024 compared to 2023. This includes learning, permanent, and international licences.
According to official data, 1,39,851 permanent licences were issued in 2024, an increase from 1,32,944 in 2023. Overall, the total number of licences issued also rose from 2,77,904 in 2023 to 2,90,321 in 2024.
Every bike rider and car driver must possess a valid driving licence. The RTO conducts learning licence tests at Sangamwadi RTO, which can be taken online or in person. For permanent licences, two-wheeler applicants are tested at the Phulewadi RTO office on Alandi Road, while four-wheeler applicants undergo testing at the sensor-based track at the Institute of Driving Training and Research (IDTR), located at Bhosari Phata Chowk.
The permanent licence test is challenging
The RTO’s efforts to streamline the process and enforce rules aim to ensure better road safety in Pune.
