Pune: Crime Branch Cracks Down On Sellers Of Deadly Nylon Manja
In a bid to curb the menace of nylon manja, the Crime Branch has launched a crackdown on sellers of the deadly thread. The latest action saw the arrest of a man selling nylon cloth in Munjaba settlement of Vishrantwadi area, with a reel of nylon manja seized from him.
This is not an isolated incident, as two other men were caught selling manja secretly in Bibvewadi and Dhanori areas, despite the ban on the sale of nylon manja. A reel of nylon manja was seized from them as well.
In another raid, police constable Sumeet Takpere received a tip-off about a person selling nylon manja in Demokratar Annabhau Sathenagar area of Bibvewadi. The police raided the place and seized 50 reels of nylon manja, valued at ₹10,000.
A case was registered against a youth from Upper Indiranagar for violating the ban on nylon manja and for an offense under the Environment Protection Act. Sumit Takpere filed a complaint at Bibwewadi police station, and police constable Angre is investigating.
The crackdown on nylon manja sellers comes after reports of serious injuries to citizens and birds due to the deadly thread used for kite flying during Sankranti. The authorities are taking a tough stance against those flouting the ban, and the Crime Branch is leaving no stone unturned to curb the menace of nylon manja.
