Pune: After enduring two days of severe cold, Pune woke up to a thick blanket of fog between 6 am and 7 am today, marking a shift in the weather. While the chill lingered, it was noticeably milder compared to previous days, creating a serene yet cold atmosphere across the city and surrounding areas.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a gradual increase in minimum temperatures over the next three days across Maharashtra. Light rainfall is expected in Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada, with the minimum temperature anticipated to rise by 2°C to 3°C during this period.

In recent days, the cold wave had caused temperatures to drop below 10°C in several parts of the state, including Pune. Meanwhile, areas such as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalgaon, and Parbhani experienced heavy fog and hail during the early morning hours.

The IMD attributes the change in weather to cyclonic winds forming in Southeast Iran and Southwest Rajasthan, which have altered atmospheric pressure. This is expected to bring about a coordination of western and eastern winds, reducing the intensity of the cold wave. Consequently, the minimum temperature across Maharashtra is likely to rise by around 3°C in the coming days.
