Pimpri-Chinchwad, January 17, 2025: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has alerted residents about fraudulent SMS messages falsely claiming that water connections will be disconnected due to unpaid taxes. These messages, signed by a fictitious “Devesh Joshi, municipal corporation officer,” are not authorized by PCMC and are intended to defraud citizens.

Avinash Shinde, Assistant Commissioner of the Tax Assessment and Collection Department at PCMC, clarified, “The municipal corporation’s tax collection department sends official SMS reminders from authorized systems and numbers. At no point are citizens asked to pay water taxes through random mobile numbers. Residents should ignore such fraudulent messages.”

PCMC began taking action in December against property owners with overdue water taxes. As part of the drive, the civic body has disconnected 607 water connections and collected ₹53 crore in outstanding payments.

Residents are urged to pay their water taxes directly through official channels and report suspicious SMS messages to authorities. PCMC remains committed to ensuring a transparent and secure tax collection process.
