Pune/Pimpri (Jan 17): The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) undertook a demolition drive on Friday (January 17) at Laxmi Chowk, Hinjewadi, targeting unauthorized tin sheds and constructions. The PMRDA’s Illegal Constructions and Evictions Department carried out the action on multiple illegal structures, bringing relief to residents by easing traffic congestion in the area.

Numerous complaints were lodged about traffic disruptions caused by unauthorized constructions at Laxmi Chowk. Acting on these grievances, PMRDA, in coordination with the Public Works Department, demolished over 50 unauthorized tin sheds, fences, boundary walls, and permanent structures in a drive that lasted from morning till evening. Officials on-site urged residents to avoid engaging in illegal construction.

This action was carried out under the guidance of PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase, Superintendent of Police and Vigilance Officer Amol Tambe, and Illegal Construction and Evictions Department Joint Commissioner (Acting) Dr. Deepti Suryawanshi-Patil. Additional support was provided by Deputy Collector Pramod Kudale, Tehsildars Sachin Maske and Rajendra Ranjane, Police Inspector Maheshkumar Sartape, junior engineers, and police personnel. PMRDA clarified that a survey of unauthorized constructions and hoardings within its jurisdiction is ongoing, and further action will follow.

Voluntary Cooperation From Residents
During the operation, over 50 encroachments were demolished at Laxmi Chowk, marking one of the largest eviction drives in the area since the Navale Bridge action. Additionally, around 50 encroachers voluntarily removed their structures, supporting the administration’s efforts.

Efforts to Ease Traffic Congestion
PMRDA is actively implementing measures to address traffic congestion in Pune and surrounding areas. Priority is being given to removing encroachments that obstruct smooth traffic flow.
