Pune, June 22, 2026: In a pioneering step towards improving road safety, the Pune Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) Association has unveiled India’s first transit mixer equipped with a 360-degree camera system and an advanced Driver Assistance System (DAS). The initiative aims to reduce accidents involving heavy commercial vehicles by eliminating blind spots and enhancing driver awareness.

The specially equipped transit mixer was inaugurated at Pune’s Central Building in the presence of senior traffic police officials, industry representatives, and technology partners.

Addressing Road Safety Concerns

Speaking at the launch, traffic officials highlighted that Pune records nearly 300 fatal road accidents annually, with approximately 105 to 110 deaths involving heavy commercial vehicles each year.

Authorities noted that many serious accidents occur when pedestrians, cyclists, or two-wheeler riders enter the blind spots of trucks and other heavy vehicles, particularly during reversing maneuvers and left turns.

The newly introduced safety technology is expected to significantly reduce such risks by providing drivers with a complete, real-time view of the vehicle’s surroundings.

Advanced Safety Features

The transit mixer is fitted with five strategically placed cameras, offering a comprehensive 360-degree view around the vehicle as well as inside the driver’s cabin.

The Driver Assistance System continuously monitors driver behaviour and can detect:

  • Mobile phone usage while driving
  • Drowsiness and fatigue
  • Excessive blinking
  • Yawning and distraction
  • Unsafe driving patterns

The system generates instant alerts for drivers and stores both live and recorded footage securely on cloud servers for monitoring and analysis.

Officials said the technology effectively replaces the traditional reliance on helpers during reversing and maneuvering operations, making vehicle operation safer and more efficient.

Industry and Police Collaboration

The project has been implemented in collaboration with Fleetx Technologies, which developed a customized cloud-based monitoring platform specifically for RMC transit mixers.

The Pune RMC Association said the initiative aligns with the Maharashtra government’s road safety objectives and reflects the industry’s commitment to adopting innovative technologies for public safety.

Call for Wider Adoption

Association President Pradip Walhekar said the organization is committed to driving positive transformation within the ready-mix concrete sector and setting new benchmarks for safety and operational excellence.

Beyond supplying quality concrete, the industry aims to contribute to:

  • Road safety
  • Traffic discipline
  • Environmental sustainability
  • Responsible industrial growth

The association has appealed to RMC operators across Pune and Maharashtra to adopt similar technologies in their fleets to create safer roads and reduce accidents involving heavy vehicles.

Industry leaders expressed hope that the initiative would serve as a model for other sectors operating heavy commercial vehicles and accelerate the adoption of advanced safety systems nationwide.
