21 Pimpri-Chinchwad Athletes Selected For Indian Team For International Silambam Championship In Malaysia
Pimpri, June 22, 2026: In a significant achievement for the city’s sporting community, 21 athletes from Pimpri-Chinchwad have been selected to represent India at the International Silambam Championship scheduled to be held in Malaysia on August 1 and 2, 2026.
The Indian national team was finalized following the National Silambam Championship recently conducted in Jalna. The selection of a large contingent from Pimpri-Chinchwad highlights the city’s growing prominence in traditional Indian martial arts and sports.
The athletes selected for the Indian team are Adarsh Kekand, Aditya Telekar, Anand Gaikwad, Ananya Helave, Atharva Karhade, Devaraj Bhutekar, Harshal Dhane, Kashinath Hevale, Priya Saini, Raj Vaikole, Rutuja Kulkarni, Sakshi Saini, Shreya Dande, Siddharth Chaudhary, Suraj Bangar, Suraj Talekar, Vaidehi Navale, Vedant Tapkir, Vishwajit Pawar, Yash Balgude and Sanjay Bansode.
Silambam, one of India’s ancient traditional martial arts, has gained increasing recognition at national and international levels, with Indian athletes consistently delivering strong performances in global competitions. The selected players earned their place in the national squad through dedication, discipline, perseverance and rigorous training.
The achievement is being seen as a matter of pride not only for the athletes but also for Pimpri-Chinchwad, further strengthening the city’s reputation in the field of traditional Indian sports and martial arts.
