Pune Ring Road Realignment To Save ₹800 Crore, MSRDC Alters Route
Land acquisition for the ambitious 138-km-long Pune Outer Ring Road project is anticipated to be completed by March 2025, clearing the path for construction. The entire project is expected to become operational by September 2027, according to Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC).
Anil Kumar Gaikwad, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of MSRDC announced the revised timelines following a recent review meeting with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. “Clear instructions have been given to local officials to ensure compliance with the updated schedule,” he stated. Gaikwad further stated, “Construction is expected to take approximately two-and-a-half years once the land acquisition is completed,”.
The Pune Outer Ring Road, designed to ease traffic congestion within the city, is divided into two phases:
- Eastern Phase: A 74.08-km stretch spanning from Urse on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway to Shivare on the Pune-Satara Highway.
- Western Phase: A 64.45-km circular route linking Shivare to Urse.
The project will cover 83 villages and require 143 hectares of land across Maval, Khed, Purandar, and Haveli talukas for the eastern section, while the western section will need 64 hectares in Mulshi, Haveli, and Bhor talukas.
To accelerate the land acquisition process, Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi has requested Rs. 800 crores from the state government. An MSRDC official assured that funding for the project is secure, with loans already arranged from the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO).
