Pune News: 11 Societies To Receive Water Supply Via PMC Tankers Amid GBS Concerns
Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to supply clean drinking water via tankers to 11 societies in Kirkatwadi and Dhayari, located along Sinhagad Road, as a precautionary measure against the increasing cases of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) in the area. However, the exact number of tankers to be deployed remains unspecified.
Recent weeks have seen a rise in GBS cases in Nanded, Nandoshi, Dhayari, Kirkatwadi, and surrounding areas. These regions do not receive purified water from the municipal system. Instead, water is supplied from a well without proper purification, leading to complaints of illnesses such as diarrhea, vomiting, and muscle pain among residents.
Considering the growing number of GBS cases in the area, PMC has taken steps to provide drinking water via tankers to residents of affected societies. At present, water is supplied to villages like Kirkatwadi, Khadakwasla, and Nanded through the same well-based system that existed before their inclusion in PMC limits.
The societies to receive tanker-based water supply include DSK Vishwa, Utsav, Moraya Sparsh, Pandurang Residency, Kalpak Home Phase 2, Urban Park, Kalam Green Leaf, Anandban, Ingawale Patil Complex, Ujjwal Nisarg Society, and Sai Galaxy, according to Additional Commissioner Prithviraj B.P.
This measure aims to address concerns about contaminated well water and safeguard public health in the affected regions.
