Innovative Farmer Uday Patil Finds Success in Guava Cultivation, Earning ₹20 Lakh Annually
Sangli, Maharashtra: When most farmers in Sangli’s Walwa taluka stick to sugarcane farming, one man dared to take a different path—and it paid off. Uday Patil, a progressive farmer from Kasegaon, has proven that innovation in agriculture can lead to significant financial success. By shifting from traditional crops to guava cultivation, he now earns an impressive ₹20 lakh per year.
A Bold Step Toward Modern Farming
Sangli district is known for its fertile land and abundant water resources, making it a hub for sugarcane and horticulture. However, Uday Patil chose to break away from convention. In 2018, he planted the VNR Thailand variety of guavas on his 1.5-acre farm and carefully nurtured the orchard for 18 months. His first harvest yielded 15 tons of guavas, marking the beginning of a prosperous journey.

Maximizing Profits with Smart Techniques
Uday didn’t stop at guava cultivation; he also adopted intercropping by planting marigolds alongside his fruit trees. This strategy not only boosted his income but also enhanced soil fertility. Today, his well-maintained orchard produces two guava harvests a year, averaging 35 tons annually.
Speaking to Local 18, Uday shared that the superior quality of his guavas allows him to sell them directly to traders, eliminating middlemen. Each guava weighs about one kilogram, and with a market price of ₹60-₹65 per kg, his farm generates substantial revenue.
An Inspiration for Farmers
Through research and dedication, Uday has perfected his farming techniques, ensuring a consistent yield of high-quality guavas. His success story underscores the importance of innovation in agriculture, inspiring other farmers to explore alternative crops.
By transitioning from sugarcane to guava farming, Uday Patil has not only secured his financial future but has also demonstrated that taking risks in agriculture can lead to remarkable rewards. His journey proves that patience, resilience, and a willingness to embrace change can pave the way for success in modern farming.
