Pune: Social activist Ujjwal Keskar has requested Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to appoint the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) as the Special Planning Authority (SPA) for urban development plans in the villages of Uruli Devachi and Phursungi.

Keskar’s appeal comes in light of PMC’s past involvement in creating urban development plans for these villages, which have seen rapid urbanization and growing demands for infrastructure. The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) was previously appointed as the SPA for 23 villages, including Uruli Devachi and Phursungi, but Keskar argues that PMC, with its vast experience, is better suited to handle the implementation of these urban plans.

The proposals for urban development in both villages involve significant areas for low-income housing, gardens, playgrounds, and road infrastructure. Keskar emphasized that PMC had already waived costs of over Rs 1,000 crore for these projects but was excluded from the SPA role. He urges the state government to reconsider this decision and reinstate PMC’s authority to manage the development of these villages, as done with other areas within the Pune Metropolitan Region.
