Pune: A two-wheeler rider who assaulted a traffic policeman by hitting him on the head with a stone was apprehended by the police and paraded through the Phursungi area as a public warning. The incident took place on Thursday evening at Saswad Road in Bhekrai Nagar, where Police Constable Rajesh Ganpat Naik (47) was seriously injured.

During a recent event in Pimpri, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had highlighted the rising crime rate in Pune and stressed the need for strict action, including publicly parading criminals to instill fear among offenders.

Acting on these directives, Pune police arrested the accused, Bablu Masal (25), a native of Dharashiv, and brought him back to Pune. He was paraded through Bhekrai Nagar to demonstrate the consequences of assaulting a police officer.

Bablu Masal, who works as a driver and resides in Pune with his mother, fled to his hometown in Dharashiv after videos of the attack went viral.

The incident occurred on Thursday evening when Constable Naik was on traffic duty at Bhekrai Nagar Chowk. Around 5:30 PM, he stopped Masal for speaking on the phone while riding his two-wheeler and advised him to follow traffic rules. Enraged by the intervention, Masal verbally abused Naik, picked up a stone from the roadside, and struck him on the head, causing serious injuries. The accused then fled the scene.

Following an investigation, the police tracked him down to Dharashiv, arrested him, and brought him back to Pune for legal action.
