Reckless Driver Arrested For Dragging Biker For One Kilometer In Pune,
Pune Division Sees 13% Drop in Road Accidents and Fatalities in 2024
Pune, February 10, 2025: In a shocking incident at Bhairobanala Chowk on Pune-Solapur Road, a motorist hit a biker and then dragged him for nearly one kilometer. The accused driver has been arrested by Wanwadi police on charges of attempted murder.
The arrested individual has been identified as Rajiv Krishnakumar Burman (60), a resident of Sacred Heart Town Society, Wanwadi. The complaint was filed by Abhijit Yeduba Golait (30), a resident of Heaven Park Society, Hadapsar.
According to the police, Golait was riding his two-wheeler on Saturday night around 9 PM when Burman’s car hit him from behind at Bhairobanala Chowk. Golait stopped his bike on the roadside and took a photo of the car on his mobile phone. Enraged by this, Burman intentionally drove his vehicle towards Golait. Acting quickly, Golait jumped onto the car’s bonnet, but the driver continued to drive, dragging him all the way from Bhairobanala Chowk to 93 Avenue Mall Chowk, a distance of nearly one to 1.5 kilometers. Golait sustained injuries in the incident.
At the signal near 93 Avenue Mall Chowk, Burman finally stopped the vehicle. Golait immediately informed the police, and bystanders helped detain Burman until officers arrived. The police arrested Burman for attempted murder, and senior officials, including Assistant Commissioner of Police Anuradha Udmale and Senior Police Inspector Satyajit Adamane, visited the scene. The investigation is being led by Police Sub-Inspector Dilip Palve.
