Pune, February 12: The redevelopment of Shivajinagar Bus Stand is a crucial step in improving Pune’s public transport system, and it must be completed on time and with high quality, stated Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar during a review meeting held today. He instructed MahaMetro and the State Transport Corporation to work in coordination to ensure the project’s timely completion under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
To attract reputable developers for the project, Pawar directed officials to present a proposal for a 99-year contract in the upcoming Cabinet meeting.
Review Meeting and Key Directives
The meeting, chaired by Ajit Pawar, was attended by Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, Minister of State for Transport Madhuri Misal, Shivajinagar MLA Siddharth Shirole, and senior officials from the Planning, Finance, and Urban Development departments.
Pawar emphasized that the foundation stone for the project must be laid by Maharashtra Day (May 1, 2025). He also instructed authorities to expedite the necessary MoUs between MahaMetro and the State Transport Corporation to streamline execution.
Project Highlights:
- Modern bus terminal with commercial complexes
- Two-level underground parking
- Retail and semi-basement space
- Multi-level bus terminal: Ground floor for buses, first floor for bus depot, and second floor for parking
- 16-storey tower for government and private offices
Additionally, Pawar directed officials to initiate the redevelopment of Swargate Bus Stand, ensuring that both projects contribute to Pune’s urban infrastructure.
