Pimpri-Chinchwad: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has launched a large-scale demolition drive to clear illegal warehouses, tin sheds, scrap shops, and small industries spread across 850 acres in Chikhali-Kudalwadi. The ₹1 crore expense incurred during this operation will be recovered from the respective landowners by adding the costs to their property records.

Over the past six days, authorities have demolished 2,845 unauthorized constructions covering 473 acres. The demolition involved 46 poclains, 8 JCBs, 1 crane, and 4 cutters, alongside police personnel, laborers, and support staff. The cost breakdown includes machinery, manpower, meals, and logistics.

Municipal officials initiated this action following a survey that revealed many businesses lacked fire safety certificates, industrial permits, and pollution control clearances. The demolition will continue until Sunday, with additional action planned in areas like Talawade, Kalewadi, Thergaon, Pimpri, and Walhekarwadi.

To prevent re-encroachment, dedicated patrol teams will monitor the area. If encroachment occurs again, officials will face disciplinary action. Additionally, landowners who fail to clear leftover materials risk receiving official notices. The municipal administration, led by Commissioner Shekhar Singh, has also committed to relocating scrap businesses outside city limits.
