Pune: Assam Police Visits Comedian Samay Raina's Residence Over ‘India’s Got Latent’ Controversy
Pune: A team from Assam Police visited stand-up comedian Samay Raina’s residence in Balewadi, Pune, on Thursday to serve a notice in connection with an FIR filed against him and four others over alleged objectionable remarks made during the YouTube show ‘India’s Got Latent’.
The FIR, registered in Guwahati on Monday, followed a complaint by Alok Boruah, who claimed the remarks caused “serious harm to public decency.” Along with Raina, the police have booked YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, and content creators Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Mukhija.
The case was filed under sections of the IT Act, the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986, and sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) related to insulting a woman’s modesty and obscene acts.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the FIR on social media. Following this, the Assam Crime Branch team visited Mumbai to serve notices to some accused and later arrived at Raina’s apartment in Pune. However, Raina was not present, as he is reportedly out of the country.
In response, Raina posted on social media: “Everything that is happening has been too much for me to handle. I have removed all ‘India’s Got Latent’ videos from my channel. My only objective was to make people laugh. I will fully cooperate with all agencies.”
Meanwhile, Allahbadia, known for his BeerBiceps YouTube channel, has issued a public apology regarding the remarks. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
