Pimpri Chinchwad, February 15, 2025 – A 21-year-old pickup van driver, Ayam Patel, was arrested by the Bhosari MIDC police on Thursday for dragging a traffic warden nearly 500 meters after jumping a red light. The incident occurred around 5:00 PM at Panjarpol Chowk.

Traffic warden Waghmabar Kamble, 28, attempted to stop Patel after he violated the traffic signal. However, Patel ignored the officer’s instructions and accelerated, prompting Kamble to jump onto the van’s bonnet in a bid to avoid being run over. “Kamble tried to stop him after noticing the signal violation, but Patel deliberately sped up, putting Kamble’s life in danger,” said Assistant Police Inspector Maheshkumar Chitampalle of the Bhosari MIDC police station.

Kamble clung to the bonnet as Patel continued to drive recklessly, despite the warden’s pleas to stop. A fellow traffic officer who witnessed the event quickly pursued the van and managed to block its path after it had traveled almost 500 meters.

Kamble suffered a fractured right hand and injuries to his leg during the incident and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Patel was immediately apprehended and charged under Section 109 (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The police have urged drivers to adhere to traffic rules and warned of stringent actions against reckless driving.
