PMC Approves Metro Rail Expansion from Hadapsar to Loni Kalbhor and Hadapsar to Saswad
Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved new metro rail routes from Hadapsar to Loni Kalbhor and Hadapsar to Saswad, aiming to enhance the city’s public transport network. The project is estimated to cost ₹5,704 crore.
The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (Maha-Metro) had submitted a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for these routes, which PMC approved on the condition that it would not provide a financial guarantee for loan repayment. However, PMC will contribute ₹3.6 crore for land acquisition, according to Municipal Commissioner Rajendra Bhosale as per reported by sakal media.
As per the DPR:
- The Hadapsar–Loni Kalbhor corridor will span 11.35 km with ten stations.
- The Hadapsar–Saswad corridor will cover 5.57 km with four stations.
The total project cost of ₹4,686 crore will be funded through 20% contributions from both the state and central governments, while 60% will be raised through loans.
Metro Director Atul Gadgil highlighted that these new routes are spur lines of the already approved Kharadi–Hadapsar and Swargate–Khadakwasla corridors. He urged for the DPR’s swift approval at the state level.
The DPR, submitted in May 2023, was delayed as PMC required Maha-Metro to consult the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) due to overlapping infrastructure projects. Maha-Metro has since addressed these concerns.
Metro Station Details:
- Hadapsar–Loni Kalbhor Line: Hadapsar Phata, Hadapsar Bus Depot, Akashwani-Hadapsar, Laxmi Colony, Stad Farm, Manjari Phata, Draksha Baug, Toll Naka, Wak Vasti, and Loni Kalbhor.
- Hadapsar–Saswad Line: Hadapsar Bus Depot, Hadapsar Gliding Club, Fursungi IT Park, Sulabh Garden, and Saswad Road Railway Station.
With this approval, Pune takes a significant step toward expanding its metro network and improving public transportation.
