National-Level Weightlifter Yashtika Acharya Dies in Gym Accident
National-level weightlifter Yashtika Acharya tragically lost her life while practicing at a gym in Bikaner on Wednesday. The 17-year-old athlete was performing squats with a 270-kg weight when the squat rod slipped and fell on her neck, causing her to collapse.
Tragic Gym Accident Claims Young Powerlifter’s Life
According to officials, Yashtika fainted due to the sudden impact of the barbell on her neck. Gym trainers and fellow athletes rushed to assist her, administering CPR before taking her to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, she was declared dead on arrival.
Naya Shahar police station officer Vikram Tiwari confirmed that CCTV footage from the gym corroborated the incident. The family has not filed any complaint and has declined a post-mortem. Authorities have handed over the body for last rites.

Yashtika Acharya was a rising powerlifting star, having recently won gold and silver medals at the 33rd National Bench Press Championship in Goa. Competing in the Sub-Junior 84kg and above category, she was considered a promising talent in Indian powerlifting.
