Pune: A series of banners displayed across Pune’s Kothrud area have sparked widespread discussion, with residents making a direct appeal to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to address rising crime. The banners, which read “Save Kothrud from Becoming Beed”, reflect growing concerns about increasing incidents of violence, vandalism, and criminal activities in the locality.

Over the past few days, multiple criminal incidents have been reported in Kothrud. In a major attack, members of a gang allegedly linked to notorious criminal Gajanan Marne brutally assaulted a political worker associated with Union Minister Muralidhar Mohol. Soon after, reports of vehicle vandalism surfaced, followed by the murder of a young man, heightening tensions in the area.

Fearing that Kothrud is heading towards lawlessness, residents have put up these banners, raising urgent questions about the state of law and order. The banners list several concerns, including political protection for criminals, pressure on law enforcement, and the unchecked spread of crime-glorifying content on social media.

Key Concerns Highlighted on the Banners:

  • “Honorable Chief Minister, Save Kothrud from Becoming Beed!”
  • “Who is shielding criminals and funding their activities?”
  • “Is there political pressure on the police?”
  • “Why is action not being taken against illegal banners promoting criminals?”
  • “Who is responsible for the rising incidents of thefts, murders, and extortion?”

With the banners gaining attention across the city, the demand for stricter law enforcement and immediate government intervention in Kothrud is growing stronger.
