Pune, 18 June, 2026: The trial in the rape and murder case of a minor girl from Nasrapur in Pune district’s Bhor taluka has reached its final stage, with the special court completing the examination and cross-examination of 55 witnesses in just 16 working days.

According to information presented before the court, Rajgad Police filed a nearly 1,900-page chargesheet within 15 days of the crime. Following the framing of charges against the accused, the hearing began before Special Judge S.R. Salunkhe. The state appointed Nashik District Government Pleader Ajay Misar as Special Public Prosecutor in the case.

During the trial, the prosecution recorded the statements of 55 witnesses, including the victim’s parents and grandparents. The testimony of three children who allegedly saw the accused taking the victim away was also presented before the court. CCTV footage from the crime scene, forensic reports and other technical evidence were submitted as part of the prosecution’s case.

Investigators also placed significant reliance on DNA evidence. According to the prosecution, forensic analysis of samples collected during the investigation established a link between the accused and the crime. The prosecution argued that the witness testimonies, CCTV footage and scientific evidence together form a strong chain of proof.

The defence has completed the cross-examination of witnesses, while the prosecution has concluded the presentation of its evidence. The accused, Bhimrao Kamble, is currently in judicial custody.

The next key stage of the trial is scheduled for Friday, when the court will record the accused’s statement. The court has also sought reports from prison authorities regarding the accused’s conduct in jail, as well as information related to his family background and behaviour. After the statement is recorded, both the prosecution and defence are expected to present their final arguments before the court.

Speaking on the progress of the case, Special Public Prosecutor Ajay Misar said the proceedings are moving towards completion and that the final phase of arguments will begin after the accused’s statement is recorded.

The case, which sparked widespread outrage across Maharashtra, is now nearing its conclusion, with public attention focused on the court’s final verdict.
