New Rule At Shani Shingnapur: Only Branded Edible Oil Allowed For Offerings From March 1
Ahilyanagar: Devotees visiting the Shani temple at Shani Shingnapur will now be allowed to offer only branded edible oil to the deity, starting from March 1. The temple trust has implemented this rule to prevent damage to the Shani idol due to harmful chemicals found in non-edible oils.
The temple’s Chief Executive Officer, Gorakh Darandale, stated that non-edible oils often contain chemicals that could erode the sacred idol. To prevent this, the decision was taken by the temple trust, followed by approval from the local village council.
A circular has been issued to inform local shopkeepers, vendors, and business owners in the temple premises. Devotees will now be required to ensure that the oil they offer is packaged, bears an ISI mark, and is labeled as edible. Temple authorities will deploy staff at the entrance to enforce this rule.
The Shani Shingnapur temple has often been in the news due to various policy decisions and subsequent protests by different organizations. This latest decision aims to preserve the temple’s sanctity while ensuring the protection of the revered Shani idol.
