Good News for Commuters: Final Stretch of Samruddhi Mahamarg Nears Completion
Mumbai, Pune, Nashik: Travel times between Mumbai, Pune, and Nashik are set to reduce significantly as two major infrastructure projects near completion. The final 76-kilometer stretch of the Samruddhi Mahamarg, connecting Igatpuri to Amane (near Bhiwandi), is expected to open within the next few days. Additionally, the Mumbai-Pune Missing Link project is nearing completion and is scheduled for inauguration in August. These developments will enhance connectivity and ease congestion on existing routes.
Benefits of the Samruddhi Mahamarg Expansion
The completion of this final stretch is a milestone for travelers between Mumbai and Nashik. This section features five tunnels and 16 bridges, a significant engineering achievement. The improved highway is expected to:
- Reduce travel time between key cities.
- Alleviate congestion on the existing Mumbai-Nashik highway.
- Boost Maharashtra’s economy by improving transportation efficiency for farmers and businesses.
Currently, commuters traveling from Mumbai to Igatpuri rely on the old Mumbai-Nashik highway before switching to the expressway. With the new stretch, the journey will bypass the congested Kasara Ghat, making travel smoother and faster.
Samruddhi Mahamarg: Key Connectivity
Stretching 701 kilometers, the Samruddhi Mahamarg is a direct link between Nagpur and Mumbai, significantly cutting travel time across Maharashtra. It connects major cities like Nagpur, Aurangabad, Nashik, and Mumbai, benefiting both passenger and commercial transportation.
Estimated Opening Timeline
Final safety measures, including crash barriers and signboards, are currently being installed. The project is expected to be fully completed by March 15, with the final stretch opening between mid and late March. This long-awaited development will revolutionize travel and economic activity across the state.
