Immediate Action by Railways
The Indian Railways responded swiftly, confirming that the official was removed from service on February 27, the same day the incident occurred. “This staff was removed on 27/2, the same day on which he committed this act,” the Ministry of Railways stated in a post on X.
RailwaySeva, an official support account for rail users, also addressed the issue, emphasizing that a proper mechanism exists for garbage disposal on trains. “The OBHS (On-Board Housekeeping Services) staff who violated this has been removed, and a heavy penalty has been imposed. Further, staff members are being counseled to ensure proper cleanliness in trains and railway premises.”
Public Reactions
The video has triggered a strong response from social media users. One user, The Skin Doctor, commented, “He knew he was being recorded, and people were calling him out, yet even that wasn’t enough to make him stop. Where does this arrogance and confidence come from?”
Another user pointed out that such incidents are common: “It’s routine practice. If we closely watch railway tracks, we can observe it easily. Up to 15–20 meters on both sides of the tracks are littered with plates, wrappers, plastic packets, etc. A very bad situation.”
Others raised concerns about accountability, with one user stating, “No accountability and no fear of losing jobs.”
