Pune, March 21, 2025 – After a two-year delay, the Pune-Nashik Green (Industrial) Expressway project is finally moving forward. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has issued a land acquisition notification, paving the way for the construction of the 134-km-long industrial expressway. The state government has approved the acquisition of 1,545 hectares of land, with the process set to begin soon.

A Key Infrastructure Project for Maharashtra

The expressway aims to ease traffic congestion between Pune and Nashik while boosting industrial growth. Initially, there was uncertainty over whether to proceed with the expressway or a parallel Pune-Nashik railway line proposed by MahaMetro. However, after reviewing technical and financial feasibility, the government has prioritized the expressway project.

Challenges and Delays

The project faced resistance from local farmers, leading to delays. Former Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar had previously suggested scrapping the project, but the government has now reissued the acquisition notification, clearing the way for its implementation.
