Mumbai: The Maharashtra state government has not yet made any decision or issued directives regarding the commencement of the next academic year from April 1 for state board schools. However, sources in the education department indicate that after the final exams, students will have summer vacations until June 14, and schools are expected to reopen on June 15.

According to the schedule released by the Maharashtra State Council of Educational Research and Training (MSCERT), the final exams for students in Classes I to IX under the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education will take place from April 8 to April 25. Results will be announced on May 1, and admissions for Class I will begin from May 2. The summer vacations for the current academic year will be conducted as planned, ensuring the academic year 2025-26 starts on June 15, as per the Directorate of Education.

Sanjay Naikade, Primary Education Officer, Zilla Parishad, Pune, confirmed, “No decision has been taken at the government level regarding the start of the next academic year from April 1. Schools will have summer vacations until June 14 after the final exams, and classes will resume on June 15. After Gudi Padwa, teachers begin meeting parents for admissions, and Class I admissions start on May 2, following the result declaration on May 1.”

Under the New Education Policy (NEP), the academic year for state board schools is proposed to begin from April 1. However, this transition will take effect from the following year. Before its implementation, syllabus changes for Classes I and II will be introduced in the upcoming academic year.
