Cybercrime Crackdown Intensifies

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, in response to a written query, revealed that law enforcement agencies have been actively working to curb online fraud. The International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI), a unique number assigned to mobile devices, has been a critical factor in tracking and blocking fraudulent activities.

The Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), operating under the Ministry of Home Affairs, has played a key role in identifying cyber threats and blocking digital communication platforms exploited for scams.

Financial Fraud Prevention Saves ₹4,386 Crore

Highlighting the government’s proactive measures, Kumar stated that the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System, launched in 2021 under I4C, has helped prevent financial frauds amounting to ₹4,386 crore in over 13.36 lakh complaints.

To facilitate reporting of cybercrimes, the government has introduced the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (cybercrime.gov.in), focusing on crimes against women, children, and financial fraud. A toll-free cybercrime helpline (1930) has also been operationalized for immediate assistance.

As cyber threats continue to evolve, the Indian government remains committed to strengthening digital security and protecting citizens from online fraud.
