DA Increase: Central Government Employees to Benefit from 2% Hike in Dearness Allowance
The Indian government has delivered some good news for its employees ahead of the new financial year. In a move aimed at addressing rising inflation and ensuring the financial well-being of its workforce, the Union Cabinet has approved a 2% increase in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for central government employees. This increase, announced by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, will benefit over 68 lakh employees and 42 lakh pensioners. The DA, a crucial component of government salaries, helps compensate for inflation and maintain the purchasing power of employees.
This increase in DA and DR, which takes effect from January 1, 2025, will raise the combined allowance from 53% to 55%. The move will have a significant impact on the exchequer, amounting to ₹7,716 crore. This increase will benefit a substantial number of individuals, including 48.66 lakh Central Government employees and 66.55 lakh pensioners. The increase is in line with the established formula, which is based on the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission.
It’s important to note that the Dearness Allowance (DA) is not a fixed amount for all government employees. It can vary depending on the location of the employee’s workplace, with higher allowances typically provided in urban areas compared to semi-urban or rural locations. The DA can also differ based on the employee’s position and responsibilities.
