Under these guidelines, drivers caught using mobile phones or electronic devices such as headphones or earbuds while driving will face significant fines.

This decision comes in the wake of a recent incident where a bus driver was caught watching a cricket match while driving, sparking a crackdown on such irresponsible behavior.
At the same time, there are growing concerns over the increasing number of private vehicle drivers, including auto-rickshaw and car operators, who use mobile phones and other electronic devices while driving—heightening the risk of accidents and fatalities.
In response to rising complaints about this unsafe practice, officials have directed authorities to take strict action against drivers who violate the new rules. Additionally, a committee of experts has been formed to draft legal measures aimed at eliminating such dangerous driving habits.
Pune experienced a surge in road accidents in 2024, with the Pune police reporting a total of 1,404 accidents. These incidents resulted in 320 fatalities and 1,320 injuries. In contrast, 2023 saw 1,230 accidents, indicating a notable rise in traffic-related accidents over the past year.
