Bank Holiday: Nationwide Closures in April 2025 – Full List of State-Wise Holidays

The banking sector across India is set to witness multiple holidays in April, impacting in-person banking operations. As the new financial year 2025-26 commences, banks remain closed on April 1 for internal audits and back-end processes. Additionally, banks in Jharkhand observe a state-wide closure for the Sarhul festival, a significant cultural celebration.

Eid-ul-Fitr Leads to Holiday Closures

On March 31, banks in several states were closed due to Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations. While digital banking services such as UPI, mobile banking, and online transactions remained functional, physical banking operations, including cheque deposits and account openings, were unavailable.

April 2025: 14 Bank Holidays Nationwide

April will see a total of 14 bank holidays, including Sundays, second and fourth Saturdays, and various state and national holidays. Customers are advised to plan their financial transactions accordingly to avoid disruptions.

State-Wise Observances:

• April 5 (Saturday) – Babu Jagjivan Ram Jayanti
  Banks closed nationwide to honor social reformer Babu Jagjivan Ram.
• April 10 (Thursday) – Mahavir Jayanti
  Banks closed in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Telangana.
• April 14 (Monday) – Ambedkar Jayanti & Regional New Year Celebrations
  Closures in Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh, Mizoram, Meghalaya, and Himachal Pradesh for Ambedkar Jayanti.
  Regional closures for Vishu (Kerala), Tamil New Year (Tamil Nadu), Poila Boishakh (West Bengal), and Bihu (Assam).
• April 15 (Tuesday) – Bihu New Year
  Banks shut in Assam, West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh.
• April 21 (Monday) – Garia Puja
  Bank holiday in Tripura.

Digital Banking to Remain Operational

While physical banking services will be unavailable on holidays, customers can continue using digital banking platforms such as internet banking, mobile banking, and UPI transactions. However, services like cheque clearance, branch-based cash withdrawals, and account-related assistance may be delayed.

To avoid last-minute inconveniences, customers are encouraged to check the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday schedule and plan their transactions accordingly.
