The guard, reportedly employed at L&T in Powai, was caught on camera saying, “Marathi gaya tel lagane” (Marathi can go to hell). The clip quickly went viral, drawing the attention of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers, who arrived at the location to confront him. Angered by his remarks, MNS members allegedly assaulted him.
In a video shared by Lokshahi Marathi, the security guard is seen refusing to speak Marathi during an argument. Later, he is captured standing with folded hands, appearing to apologize, as MNS workers demand that he learn Marathi if he wishes to continue working in the state. So far, no police action has been reported in the matter.
A similar incident took place in Andheri West’s Versova area, where an employee at a D-Mart store was allegedly attacked by MNS members for refusing to communicate in Marathi. The incident, which occurred on March 25, has reignited discussions on linguistic tensions in Maharashtra.

काल तुम्ही जो राडा पाहिलात तो फक्त चमकोगिरीसाठी होता, आज मराठी माणसावर अन्याय व मराठी भाषेचा अपमान झाला तेव्हा धावून फक्त मनसे आली!

The controversy began when a video showed the employee responding dismissively to a customer’s request to speak in Marathi. He reportedly stated, “Nahi aata meko Marathi, Main Hindi hi bolega, Kya karega? Jo karna hai wo kar” (I don’t know Marathi, I will speak only in Hindi. Do whatever you want). His remarks caught the attention of MNS leaders, prompting Versova unit president Sandesh Desai and other party members to visit the store.
During the confrontation, the employee was allegedly slapped by MNS workers. A video of the incident spread online, showing party members questioning him about his presence in Mumbai and insisting that he learn Marathi if he wishes to continue working there. According to PTI reports, the employee later issued an apology for his comments.
