IMD Issues Orange Alert: Rainfall, Thunderstorms Predicted in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Four Other States

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for multiple states, forecasting rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds due to a cyclonic circulation over Madhya Maharashtra. The impact of these weather systems is expected across Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Karnataka from April 2 to April 5.
Heavy Rainfall and Hailstorm Warning
According to IMD’s latest weather bulletin, hailstorms are likely over:
- Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada on April 1 and 2
- Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, South Interior Karnataka, and Telangana on April 2 and 3
- North Interior Karnataka from April 2 to 4
- Jharkhand on April 3
- Odisha and Coastal Karnataka on April 3 and 4
Additionally, heavy rainfall is predicted at isolated places in:
- Kerala and Mahe, South Interior Karnataka from April 2 to 6
- Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal from April 3 to 5
- Coastal Karnataka from April 3 to 6
- North Interior Karnataka on April 3 and 6
- Andaman & Nicobar Islands on April 4
- Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on April 4
Heat Wave Warning Issued
Alongside rainfall warnings, the IMD has also cautioned against heat wave conditions in certain regions:
- Saurashtra and Kutch on April 2
- West Rajasthan from April 5 to 7
- Hot and humid conditions are expected in Tripura until April 2, Assam for the next three days, and Gujarat for the next four days
Temperature Fluctuations Expected
IMD forecasts a gradual fall in maximum temperatures by 2-4°C over Central India and Maharashtra until April 4, followed by a rise of 2-4°C between April 5 and 8. A similar drop in temperatures is expected over South Peninsular India over the next four days.

The IMD has advised residents and authorities to take necessary precautions against thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds. Those in heat wave-affected areas should stay hydrated and avoid direct exposure to the sun during peak hours.
