Pune, April 9, 2025 – Following the tragic death of Tanisha Bhise during childbirth, the Health Department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued notices to 850 hospitals across the city, instructing them not to demand advance deposits in emergency cases.

Tanisha Bhise, wife of BJP MLC Amit Gorkhe’s personal assistant Sushant Bhise, died after being turned away from Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, which allegedly demanded a ₹10 lakh deposit before admitting her.

The Bhise family, unable to pay at the time, had to take her to another hospital where she delivered twin daughters. However, she passed away shortly after childbirth.

The family claims that timely treatment at Deenanath Hospital could have saved her life and are calling for action against the hospital. A government-appointed inquiry committee has been formed, and Dr. Sushrut Ghaisas, who demanded the deposit, has resigned from his honorary position at the hospital.

In response to the incident, PMC Assistant Health Officer Dr. Suryakant Devkar confirmed that notices have been issued to city hospitals warning them against demanding deposits in emergencies. Hospitals have been instructed to prioritize patient care and discuss financial matters only after treatment. Legal action will be taken against any hospital found violating this directive.
