On April 7, more than 30 students in Visakhapatnam reportedly missed the JEE Mains 2025 Session 2 exam due to a traffic jam allegedly caused by the convoy of Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan. The students were set to attend the morning shift, which began at 9 AM, with the entry closing at 8:30 AM. They were instructed to arrive by 7 AM for security checks and biometric verification.

The incident took place at the ION Digital Zone in Chinnamusidivada, Pendurthi, one of the designated exam centres for JEE Mains 2025. The exam, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), runs from April 4 to 15 in two shifts: 9 AM to 12 PM and 3 PM to 6 PM.

Several parents reported that their children were caught in a traffic jam at NAD Junction due to the Deputy CM’s convoy heading towards Araku. They claimed that despite reaching NAD Junction at 7:50 AM, it took them 42 minutes to reach the exam centre. As a result, families urged the state government to intervene and ask the NTA to arrange a special exam for the affected students.

However, Visakhapatnam police denied any link between the traffic delay and the Deputy CM’s convoy, stating that the convoy passed through the area at 8:41 AM, after the expected arrival time for candidates. Police also confirmed that no roads were blocked before 8:30 AM. They added that Monday’s absentee numbers were among the lowest recorded, with only 30 students missing the exam, compared to the usual 60 to 80 absentees per shift.

In response to media reports, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan instructed the Visakhapatnam police to investigate the situation, including the timing of the convoy and any possible road diversions. Pawan Kalyan was in the region to launch ₹1,005 crore worth of road development projects in the tribal districts of Alluri Seetharamaraju.

As the issue remains unresolved, the affected students and their families continue to hope for the possibility of a re-exam.
