MLA Shankar Jagtap Proposes 'Pune-PCMC Metro' Renaming And Two New Routes In Final CMP Review
Pimpri, April 10: As the Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) for Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and PMRDA areas nears finalization under MahaMetro, a special discussion session was held at Auto Cluster, Chinchwad, by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. During the meeting, MLA Shankar Jagtap suggested key modifications to address the future needs of Pimpri-Chinchwad and demanded renaming the ‘Pune Metro’ to ‘Pune-PCMC Metro’ to reflect regional inclusion.

Raising concerns over the current stamp duty policy, Jagtap noted that both Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad are charged equally despite the latter having access to only one metro route. He called for an immediate review of this discrepancy and emphasized the need for fairer infrastructure planning.
Highlighting Pimpri-Chinchwad’s growing population and industrial development, Jagtap proposed two new metro corridors:
- Bhakti-Shakti to Chakan via Wakad
- Wakad to Katraj
He stated that these routes would prove highly beneficial for future connectivity and urban expansion.

Additional Key Demands by MLA Jagtap:
- Evaluate the feasibility of water transport on the Pavana and Indrayani rivers and integrate it into the CMP.
- Provide free parking at metro stations and avoid penal action on parked vehicles.
- Feature Warkari-themed artwork on metro poles and stations in industrial zones.
- Establish a separate ST depot for the Hinjawadi-Wakad area.
- Address the narrowing of roads due to elevated footpaths under the Smart City initiative, ensuring smooth vehicle flow and garage access.
- Expedite the construction of a railway overbridge at Walhekarwadi and a grade separator at MM Chowk, Kalewadi.
The session saw the participation of several dignitaries, including PCMC Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh, MLAs Uma Khapre and Amit Gorkhe, Additional Commissioner Vijay Khorate, City Engineer Makarand Nikam, Chief Engineer Pramod Ombhase, and former corporators Sandeep Waghere, Rajendra Gawde, Namdev Dhake, Raju Durge, Maruti Bhapkar, Sachin Chikhale, Sharmila Babar, Shekhar Chinchawade, Dhananjay Bhise, among others.

The CMP being prepared by MahaMetro is expected to play a pivotal role in future transport planning. Jagtap’s suggestions are likely to influence significant changes, aligning the plan with the specific needs of Pimpri-Chinchwad.
