After years of planning and anticipation, Amravati’s very own airport at Belora—about 15 km from the city—is finally ready for takeoff. Regular commercial flight services will begin on April 16, 2025, marking a major milestone for the people of Western Vidarbha. The airport’s launch is set to greatly enhance the region’s connectivity, boost the economy, and open new doors for travel and trade.

A Long-Awaited Leap for Western Vidarbha

For decades, residents of Western Vidarbha lacked direct flight access to major cities. The launch of Amravati Airport under the UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Naagrik) scheme now bridges that gap. Designed to make air travel affordable and accessible, the airport promises faster connectivity to urban hubs and supports the region’s agricultural and industrial sectors.

The Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) has developed the facility, equipping it with modern safety tools like Precision Approach Path Indicators (PAPI) to ensure smooth and secure landings.

First Flight: Amravati to Mumbai

The inaugural flight—operated by Alliance Air, a subsidiary of Air India—will connect Amravati to Mumbai. The 72-seater aircraft is already fully booked for its maiden journey, scheduled to depart at 11:30 a.m. and arrive in Mumbai by 1:15 p.m. The ticket, priced at just Rs 2,100, makes flying a viable option for more travelers.

Alliance Air will operate this route three times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, slashing the travel time from nearly eight hours by road or rail to under two hours by air.

A Boost for the Regional Economy

The airport is expected to be a game-changer for the local economy. With faster access to Mumbai, farmers and traders can quickly transport perishable goods, expanding their market reach. The improved connectivity is likely to attract investments, promote business growth, and create employment opportunities across sectors.

Tourism is also set to benefit. Western Vidarbha, with its rich cultural heritage, historical temples, and scenic landscapes, will now be more accessible to travelers from across the country and beyond.

Political Backing and Local Enthusiasm

The airport’s grand opening on April 16 will be attended by key state leaders, including Chief Minister Devendra FadnavisDeputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, and several local representatives. Their presence signals strong political support for the project and underlines its importance for regional development.

The community has welcomed the airport as a transformative step, viewing it as a long-overdue infrastructure upgrade that promises widespread benefits.

A Promising Start to a New Journey

This is just the beginning for Amravati Airport. With demand for air travel steadily increasing, future expansions and additional flight routes are on the horizon. Backed by the government’s UDAN scheme and equipped with modern infrastructure, the airport is set to play a vital role in Maharashtra’s growing transportation network.

For Amravati and nearby regions, April 16 will mark not just the launch of flights—but the dawn of a new era in connectivity, commerce, and convenience.
