Pune Rain Alert: IMD Warns of Heavy Showers Over Next 48 Hours; Red Alert for Ghat Areas
Pune, July 26: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a significant weather alert for Pune, warning of heavy rainfall over the next 48 hours. Residents are advised to remain cautious while stepping out, especially during the weekend, as moderate to heavy showers are expected across several parts of the city, while the ghat regions remain under a Red Alert for extremely heavy rainfall.
According to the IMD forecast, the city is likely to witness intermittent light showers through the morning, followed by overcast skies and intense rainfall during the afternoon and evening. The persistent rain is expected to bring down daytime temperatures, providing cooler weather conditions across Pune.
The weather department has indicated that heavy rain activity will continue for the next two to three days. While the city is likely to receive light to moderate rainfall on Monday afternoon, isolated areas in the ghat sections of Pune district may experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.
Authorities have advised tourists to avoid visiting hill stations, ghat roads, waterfalls, and dam catchment areas during this period due to the heightened risk of landslides, waterlogging, and flash flooding. The current spell of rain is expected to remain active for the next three to four days.
On Tuesday, July 28, Pune is expected to witness cloudy skies with light showers, while heavy rainfall may continue in isolated ghat areas. The city’s maximum temperature is likely to hover around 29°C, with a minimum of approximately 23°C.
Residents living in low-lying areas and motorists travelling through the ghat sections have been urged to monitor the latest weather updates before venturing out. Citizens are also advised to stay away from overflowing rivers, streams, and waterlogged locations, and to follow official advisories issued by local authorities.
