Pune’s renowned Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital is facing intense backlash after allegedly denying treatment to a pregnant woman, Tanisha Bhise, over a demand for Rs. 10 lakh. Despite suffering from continuous bleeding for nearly five and a half hours, Tanisha was reportedly refused medical attention by the hospital’s doctors. Tragically, she passed away due to the delay in treatment.

This shocking incident has not only stirred public anger but also placed the hospital in a deeply troubling position, with accusations of medical negligence and systemic failure. The Bhise family, shattered by the loss, has come forward with strong allegations and a list of five demands directed at the government, calling for justice and accountability.

“We are still waiting for justice,” the grieving family said. They believe Tanisha’s death wasn’t just the result of medical neglect but also reflected deeper flaws in the healthcare system—ranging from insensitivity to irresponsibility.

1. Strict Action Against Dr. Sushrut Ghaisas

The family is demanding more than just a resignation. They are calling for Dr. Sushrut Ghaisas to be immediately dismissed, have his medical license revoked, and be charged with culpable homicide for his alleged role in the negligence that led to Tanisha’s death.

2. Accountability for Breach of Privacy

The family has accused several individuals of leaking false and sensitive medical information about Tanisha. They are seeking legal and disciplinary action against Dr. Dhananjay Kelkar, Dr. Anuja Joshi, Dr. Sameer Jog, administrator Sachin Vyavahare, and Dr. Ghaisas for allegedly making internal reports public and spreading misinformation.

3. Prevent the Accused from Fleeing the Country

The Bhise family insists that the Sassoon Hospital Committee promptly submit its findings to the police, ensuring the accused are arrested before they have the opportunity to leave the country and are appropriately charged.

4. Establish a Patient Support System in Every Hospital

As part of a broader systemic reform, the family is urging the government to implement a structured patient support system in all hospitals. This framework should help patients and their families better understand their rights, available treatments, and relevant schemes—serving as a fitting tribute to Tanisha’s memory.

5. Release Pending Investigation Reports

Finally, the family is demanding that the remaining two investigation reports related to Tanisha’s case be made public without delay, along with immediate steps to prevent such tragedies in the future.
