Pune: Negligence Case Filed Against Dr Sushrut Ghaisas in Tanisha Bhise Death Case
Pune city police on Saturday registered a case of negligence against Dr Sushrut Ghaisas in connection with the death of Tanisha Bhise (30), a pregnant woman who was allegedly denied admission at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital over a demand for a Rs 10 lakh advance payment.
The first information report (FIR) was lodged at 4:56 pm at the Alankar police station under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Deputy Commissioner of Police Sambhaji Kadam confirmed that the FIR was based on findings from an inquiry conducted by a six-member panel set up at Sassoon General Hospital.
Dr Ghaisas, a gynaecologist associated with Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, had earlier sought police protection after receiving multiple threats. Officials stated that he was provided with an armed guard following his request.
Dr Yellappa Jadhav, medical superintendent of Sassoon Hospital, clarified that the police had not rejected the hospital’s report but had asked for a specific opinion regarding negligence in the case. “We have responded, stating that Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital should have admitted the patient,” Dr Jadhav told.
The Sassoon panel’s report follows three earlier submissions made to the government—by the state health department, the Pune Charity Commissioner, and the Maternal and Child Death section of the Pune Municipal Corporation.
While Sassoon’s report was submitted to the Alankar police station, officials stated they required further clarity on certain technical aspects and had requested additional details.
Tanisha Bhise had initially consulted Dr Ghaisas during her pregnancy. She later gave birth to twins at Surya Hospitals in Wakad, but due to post-delivery complications, she was shifted to Manipal Hospital, where she succumbed to an irreversible brain injury on March 31.
