Terror Attack in Pahalgam: Six Tourists From Maharashtra Including Two From Pune Killed, Several InjuredÂ
At least six tourists from Maharashtra, including two from Pune, lost their lives in a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, on Tuesday. The death toll may rise, making this the most fatal terrorist incident in Kashmir since the 2019 Pulwama attack, which had claimed over 25 lives.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has remained in constant touch with Vijay Kumar Bidari, the Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir. The deceased include Santosh Jagdale and Kaustubh Ganbote from Pune, Dilip Desale from Panvel, and Atul Mone, Hemant Joshi, and Sanjay Lele from the Kalyan-Dombivli region.
District emergency officer Mushtaq Ahmed confirmed the six fatalities from the Srinagar helpline. The seriously injured include Manik Patel and S Bhalchandra Rao from Panvel, and Jagdale’s wife from Pune. Additionally, three members of the Rupchandani family from Nagpur were also injured.
Chief Minister Fadnavis posted on X (formerly Twitter) confirming the deaths of Dilip Desale and Atul Mone, but sources revealed that Mone’s relatives—Hemant Joshi and Sanjay Lele—also succumbed to injuries. All three men, aged between 45 and 50, had travelled to Kashmir with nine family members via Ahmedabad on Sunday.
Officials from the Chief Minister’s Office have established contact with the Jagdale and Rupchandani families. Civil Aviation Minister Murlidhar Mohol also met with some of the families in Pune.
Santosh Jagdale (50), who worked for a public sector insurance company, is survived by his wife Pragati (45) and daughter Asawari (24). Kaustubh Ganbote, who owned a popular snack brand in Kondhwa and Rasta Peth, was his relative.
CM Fadnavis strongly condemned the attack on social media, stating, “My heartfelt tributes to those who lost their lives. We stand with the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
