Weather Update: Yellow Alert Issued For Pune, Satara, Sangli; Unseasonal Rain And Hailstorm Hit Parts Of Maharashtra
Pune, May 7, 2025 — Several regions of Maharashtra, including Vidarbha, Marathwada, and North Maharashtra, were hit by unseasonal rain and hailstorms on Monday, causing significant damage to summer crops. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for Pune, Satara, and Sangli districts, with a forecast of thunderstorms and rainfall over the next two days.
In Buldhana district, areas in Lonar and Sindkhed Raja talukas were lashed by heavy rain and hail, accompanied by lightning. The storm caused disruptions at wedding venues and claimed the lives of three cattle. In Marathwada, three people died due to lightning strikes during the storm in separate incidents.

Washim district also witnessed crop damage due to hail in Risod and surrounding areas. Farmers suffered losses in moong and groundnut crops. In Wardha’s Selu taluka, villages like Morchapur, Gondapur, Surgaon, Kanhapur, and Pawanar were affected by hailstorms.
In North Maharashtra, hail hit parts of Nashik (Manmad) and Jalgaon district’s Amalner, Dharangaon, and Chopda talukas, damaging onion crops. Manmad experienced a 20–25 minute spell of hail in the afternoon.

In Marathwada, districts like Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Beed, Latur, and Parbhani experienced stormy winds, hail, and rain. Orchards and agricultural fields suffered major losses. Lightning strikes in some regions led to three fatalities. The IMD predicts light to moderate rainfall to continue over the next two days.
In Sillod, Khultabad, Phulambri, and Paithan talukas of Sambhajinagar, heavy rain accompanied by hail and thunder was reported. In some places, strong winds disrupted wedding ceremonies, even causing mandaps to collapse.
In Lasur’s agricultural market in Gangapur taluka, sudden rain drenched sacks of grain. The Waluj–Pandharpur region also experienced large-sized hailstones, further worsening farmers’ losses.
Authorities urge residents to stay alert and farmers to take precautions to minimize crop damage.
