Thane:The Bhaindarpada Flyover, which is significant for traffic movement in Thane, was inaugurated today at the hands of Hon. Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Eknath Shinde. This flyover will provide much-needed relief from traffic congestion for the people of Thane

Commuters travelling between Mumbai and Thane via the Ghodbunder Highway can now expect a significant reduction in travel time by nearly 15 to 25 minutes, following the inauguration of a new four-lane flyover at Bhayanderpada junction on Wednesday.

The flyover, part of a three-level integrated traffic system, was inaugurated by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and MMRDA Chairman Eknath Shinde. The model comprises the ground-level highway, the elevated flyover, and the upcoming Metro Line 4 on the top tier, making it the first of its kind in the Thane region. Transport Minister and local MLA Pratap Sarnaik was also present at the event.

Shinde described the project as a landmark for regional infrastructure. “This corridor will not only ease traffic congestion but also support seamless connectivity to major routes including Navi Mumbai, Bhiwandi, Nashik, Borivli, Vasai-Virar, Jawaharlal Nehru Port, and Gujarat,” he said.

One of the key benefits of the flyover is the segregation of city and outbound traffic. While Thane city vehicles can use the slip road and underpass, outbound traffic will move over the elevated corridor, bypassing junction signals entirely. This separation is expected to improve traffic efficiency, reduce fuel consumption, and ease congestion.

Sanjay Mukherjee, Commissioner of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), said the project would not only increase vehicle speed but also stimulate economic and industrial activity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Looking ahead, Shinde announced that Metro Lines 4 and 4A, connecting Wadala, Kasarvadavli, and Gaimukh will soon be linked to the Dahisar Metro line, further enhancing interconnectivity. He added that land acquisition for this extension will begin shortly after consultations with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
