Crowned Miss Haryana 2023, Ruchi Gujjar arrived at Cannes dressed in a traditional Rajasthani bridal ensemble. But what really drew the spotlight was her customized necklace – adorned with three miniature portraits of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
A Look That Embodied Indian Heritage
Ruchi’s outfit was a masterclass in ethnic fashion. She wore a golden lehenga designed by Roopa Sharma, detailed with mirror work, traditional gota patti, and intricate embroidery. To complete the look, she draped a bandhani dupatta decorated with delicate zardozi and more gota patti work.
Speaking about her attire, Ruchi shared her emotional connection with it: “Wearing this dupatta felt like I was wrapping myself in the essence of Rajasthan’s spirit.” (She described the dupatta as more than a piece of fabric—it felt to her like she was carrying the soul of Rajasthan along with her.)

Ruchi explained her reason for wearing it at such a global platform: “This necklace represents far more than fashion. It’s a symbol of strength, vision, and India’s rise on the international stage. She further added: “Prime Minister Modi has reshaped the way the world perceives India. I wanted to walk with that pride and represent both Rajasthan and the entire country on this prestigious stage. Earlier, in a conversation with BollywoodMDB, Ruchi Gujjar spoke about her challenging journey from Rajasthan to Mumbai. Coming from a Gujjar family where women are typically not encouraged to pursue careers in the film industry, she faced many obstacles.
She said, “Changing people’s mindset about women working in Bollywood wasn’t easy. I want to become a source of inspiration in my community—someone who stood up against limiting beliefs. I’m proud to be the first from my community to make it this far in the film world, and my father has always stood by me.”
Ruchi also shared that her mother was initially worried when she decided to move to Mumbai to pursue a career in films. However, her perspective changed over time. “My mother was scared in the beginning, but now she feels proud seeing everything I’ve achieved,” she said. “My father, on the other hand, has been my biggest support since the beginning.”
Looking ahead, Ruchi expressed interest in expanding her work into the South Indian film industry. “South Indian cinema has a huge fan base, and I would love to be a part of it,” she added.
